Pooler A woman caught shoplifting $25 worth of girl’s underwear at a local retail store was arrested and transported to the Chatham County Detention Center. The offender was given a bail amount of $980. Another shoplifting attempt at the same store had a similar ending. After a Garden City woman was observed concealing a DVD in her purse and changing various bar codes, she was detained as she tried to exit with the $126 worth of stolen items. The woman was arrested for shoplifting. When the driver of a Toyota Celica was stopped for having no tag light, the officer immediately detected the odor of marijuana. The driver admitted he and his girlfriend had smoked marijuana inside the car an hour prior to being stopped. He was arrested for a tag light violation and for possession of marijuana. A surveillance tape recently caught a thief in the act of stealing tip money from a Pooler restaurant. An unknown woman is observed entering the business and removing money from the counter. A Pooler officer came to the rescue of a Savannah woman with a flat tire. The officer changed the tire and the driver was on her way. An unknown offender broke the glass on the back door of a Rogers Street home sometime during a four hour period. The resident reported nothing was disturbed or missing. The burglary of a trailer at a construction site resulted in $300 worth of equipment being stolen. Luckily, the owner of the construction company did not have many valuable items stored in the trailer. A Pooler man and woman who are going through a divorce are abiding by a court arrangement regarding living arrangements. The husband and wife take turns living one week at a time in the family home with their children. The wife recently arrived for her week and found that many items had been removed by the husband. Those items included a flat screen television, family photographs, a lawn mower, and two computers. After transporting a customer from her residence in Smyrna to a Pooler hotel, the taxi driver contacted police when the woman admitted she could not pay the $300 fare. When asked how she originally intended to pay for her trip, the woman said she didn’t. She was arrested for theft of services. An intoxicated man found himself in a lot of trouble when he assaulted a hotel guest. The drunken Pooler man could not provide a reason for being in the hotel. The man was transported to the Chatham County Jail for public drunkenness and disorderly conduct after incoherently rambling and pretending to fall down numerous times. Upon arrival at the jail, the man remained disorderly and was eventually restrained by the jail staff. The Pooler Fire Department and Pooler Police Department responded to a fire on Benton Drive. The fire appeared to be an unattended campfire and was quickly extinguished. The driver of a Ford F-150 was stopped for driving 74 mph in a 50 mph zone on Highway 80. A check on the man revealed he was wanted by the Garden City Police for burglary. He was arrested and held until a Garden City Officer arrived on the scene. Port Wentworth When a Garden City man was stopped for a defective tail light lens, the officer noticed a questionable bag within the truck. A quick look in the bag resulted in the man being arrested for possession of marijuana. Two gentlemen who allowed a homeless man to stay with them for a couple of weeks found items missing when the man moved out. Among the over $2000 worth of property that was stolen were various DVD’s, video games, and a bottle of Old Spice cologne. A taxi driver notified police when he did not receive payment for driving a woman from Abercorn Street to Port Wentworth. The woman had no money to pay the $30 fare and was not able to obtain the cost of the fare from anyone else. She was arrested for theft of services and transported to jail. An officer escorted a Guyton man to pick up his child at the mother’s residence with no luck. Neither the woman nor the child was located. The driver of a Ford Expedition was stopped for weaving on Highway 21 very early one morning. The Springfield man submitted to and failed several field sobriety tests. He was arrested for driving under the influence and failing to maintain his lane. A Port Wentworth officer stopped the driver of a Ford F-150 when he noticed the truck had no license plate. Instead, there was a piece of cardboard with the words “stolen plate” in its place. A background check on the Savannah man ended in his arrest for operating a vehicle without a valid tag, failure to register his vehicle, and driving with a suspended license.
